Dubai Princess Declares Divorce on Instagram with Islamic Triple Talaq

Shaikha Mahra, the daughter of Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, appears to have divorced her husband Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum in an Instagram post.

“Dear Husband,” Shaikha Mahra’s post read. “As you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you.”

“Take care. Your ex-wife,” the post ended.

The 30-year-old princess, who tied the knot with Sheikh Mana in an elaborate wedding in June 2023, recently announced the birth of their first child, a baby girl, on May 9.

According to the BBC, the three-time repetition of “I divorce you” is associated with an Islamic practice known as triple talaq, which is banned in many countries.

“The practice traditionally allows a husband to instantly divorce his wife by saying the words three times and is not normally invoked by a woman,” according to CNN.

Though Sheikh Mana has yet to respond to his estranged wife’s post, both he and Shaikha Mahra have unfollowed each other on social media.

Shaikha Mahra’s father, who is not only the ruler of Dubai but also the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has maintained a close relationship with Sheikh Mana, who is also a member of Dubai’s ruling family.

Notably, a June 4 photo of her baby held to her chest was captioned “Just the two of us,” alongside pink hearts.
