The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man identified as Moferewa Maiye for allegedly impersonating a DSS officer and using security equipment to extort money from motorists in Abuja.
Maiye was arrested at his hideout near NITEL Junction along Adetokunbo Ademola Way in Wuse II, Abuja, following intelligence received by DSS operatives.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was reportedly dressed in a uniform resembling that of DSS personnel and was carrying a fake firearm.
A security source said the suspect allegedly used the items to intimidate drivers and other road users and collect money from them.
 
During questioning, the suspect reportedly claimed that the DSS equipment in his possession belonged to his late brother, who was a DSS officer and died several years ago.
The DSS is continuing its investigation to determine how the suspect obtained the agency’s equipment and how long he had allegedly been carrying out the illegal activity.
The agency warned that individuals who impersonate security personnel to commit crimes pose a serious threat to public safety and will face appropriate legal action
