Bashir Kurfi Arrested After Claiming Katsina Govt Paid Bandit Leaders for Hajj

Security operatives have arrested Dr. Bashir Kurfi, a prominent mediator known for facilitating peace talks between communities and armed groups in Katsina State, following allegations he made against the state government.
Before his arrest, Dr. Kurfi alleged that the Katsina State Government paid some suspected bandit leaders N10 million each to enable them perform the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. The claim was reported by Katsina Times.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have not officially disclosed the reason for Dr. Kurfi’s arrest or detention.
The Katsina State Government has also not issued an official response to the allegations made by Dr. Kurfi.
