Don’t Blame Iyayi’s Death on FG – Imagwe

Mr. Jude Imagwe, the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Youths and Student Affairs, has said that Prof. Iyayi’s death should not be blamed on the Federal Government.

Imagwe lamented on the accusation, describing it as untrue and unfair to plant the death of the  former ASUU leader on the Federal Government.

The Presidential Aide said this after his condolence visit to the Iyayi family. He noted that Prof. Iyayi’s death is a huge loss to the nation but questioned why Mr. President who is also pained by the death should be dragged into it.

It is quite unfortunate because President Jonathan has been doing his best to ensure that this ASUU strike was suspended.

When you say government is to blame, it is like saying government has a right to take someones life. It is God that gives life and knows the appointed time to take life which is inevitable. And to also say that government is paying lip service to education is not correct either. That we have not gotten to where we need to get to in the educational sector, I will agree with you.

Government is making progress gradually. Where we were yesterday is quite different from where we are today. The current administration is giving all it can and will continue to ensure that the educational sector is strengthened,” he said.

Prof. Iyayi was killed in an auto crash along Lokoja expressway, as he was on a trip to attend a meeting which was centered on resolving the crisis between ASUU and FG.
