The Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON) has  refuted rumors suggesting the directive to shut down operations in Abuja. Reports emerged on Wednesday that the BDC had closed shop in the FCT, attributing the situation to online business transactions and cryptocurrency.
However in a circular issued on February 1, 2024, titled “Clarification On No Sales Policy/Shutdown Of Market In Abuja,” ABCON dismissed the claims and urged members to continue operations in adherence to established guidelines.
The circular, signed by the national president, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, and regional chairman of the North Central, Alh. Shehu Mahmud, emphasized the importance of dispelling misinformation promptly.
ABCON highlighted that the alleged shutdown instructions did not originate from the central body or the zonal council of the association. Reassuring members that proper procedures and channels would be followed for communicating grievances, the statement underscored ABCON’s commitment to adhering to Central Bank of Nigeria regulations.
The Association called on its members to remain law-abiding and operate smoothly, emphasizing that it had given no directive for a shutdown.
