American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been put on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York as a precautionary measure.
The 54-year-old music mogul was arrested on Monday, facing serious federal charges including sex trafficking and racketeering.
On Tuesday, US Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky ordered that Diddy be held in jail while he awaits his trial. However, on Friday, his lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, reassured fans that there’s no need for alarm. According to Agnifilo, the suicide watch is a standard procedure for high-profile inmates and doesn’t reflect Diddy’s mental state.
“I spent six hours with him on Thursday,” Agnifilo told TMZ. “He’s not suicidal at all. He’s healthy, strong, confident, and completely focused on fighting these charges.”
While it’s unclear how long Diddy will remain under suicide watch, his attorney insists it’s nothing out of the ordinary in such cases.
