With the signing of Memphis Depay by Barcelona football club, it is clear that the club means serious business this coming season and a bid to also maintain its culture of attacking football. Considering they signed Aguero few weeks back after he left Manchester City, to a team which already has a lot of attacking options in the likes of; Messi, Griezman, Dembele, Fanti, to name a few and now Depay.
The Dutchman has started all three games for the Netherlands in Group C in the ongoing EURO 2020(1) competition as they have overcome Ukraine, Austria and North Macedonia to top the group.
Although he didn’t score or register an assist, he showed moments of brilliance in the opening fixture against Ukraine and has been involved in the build-up to three goals.
In my career, there have always been ups and downs, good moments [and] bad ones,” Memphis told Dutch media after the game against North Macedonia. “All that makes you learn. That’s why I think joining Barcelona is a big step forward in my career.”
The Catalan club’s signing of Memphis looks to be quite the bargain, but many are puzzled over the length of his contract. The Dutchman has signed for just two years, rather than the customary four or five. “It’s simply what I’ve agreed with the club,” was all Memphis had to say on the matter.
