Ousmane Dembele has credited France captain Kylian Mbappe for providing the tactical advice that helped seal Les Bleus’ 2 nil victory over Morocco and secure a place in the World Cup semi finals.
The News Chronicle reports that Dembele said Mbappe advised him to stay in a central position ready for a counterattack just before France’s second goal. The winger claimed the captain’s clever movement opened room for him to score and keep the game out of Morocco’s grasp.
Though missing a penalty in the game, Dembele lauded Mbappe’s leadership and fearless attitude and said the Real Madrid forward keeps the team motivated. The French team is still very much focused on winning yet another World Cup trophy, he said.
France’s third straight World Cup semi final showing, this one, emphasizes how dependable Didier Deschamps’ team is on the biggest football stage. After ten years of international football, Dembele also thought back on his developing importance in the national team and noted that seasoned players have a duty to help the more youthful members of the team.
France will next play the victor of the quarterfinal match between Spain and Belgium as they go after another World Cup title.
