Seven months after the Federal Government gave permission for the Federal University of Medical and Health Science in Kwale, Delta State, the state government has not yet handed over the site to federal authorities.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, shared this information during a retreat on Quick Wins in the Ministerial Deliverables (2023 to 2027) held in Abuja yesterday.

He also mentioned that the Federal Government is still waiting for Adamawa State to provide land for the Federal University of Agriculture in Mubi.

In May, the previous administration of Muhammadu Buhari approved the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Science in Kwale.

In October, President Bola Tinubu gave approval for the Federal University of Agriculture in Mubi.

The minister informed journalists, saying, “We are waiting for the Delta and Adamawa state governments to hand over sites for the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale and Federal University of Agriculture in Mubi, respectively.”

He revealed that the Federal Government has taken control of the sites for the establishment of the following institutions: Federal College of Education in Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti State; Federal College of Education in Ididep, Ibiono, Akwa Ibom State; and Federal College of Education (Technical) in Yauri, Kebbi State.

According to him, administrative processes for the above-mentioned institutions have been finalized, and they are set to begin academic activities by 2024.

He added, “For the Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo, Ondo State, and Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education in Owerri, Imo State, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been instructed to list them as universities.

This will provide Nigerians with opportunities for specialized study in the field of education at the university level.”
