The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has been decorated as a Tourism Ambassador by the Director-General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority, NTDA, Mr. Ola Awakan.
The decoration was done during a courtesy visit by the NTDA boss to Alake’s office in Abuja.
Speaking after the decoration, Alake said discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the solid minerals and tourism sectors.
He said both parties are working on the development of a Geo-tourism Plan aimed at showcasing Nigeria’s rich mineral assets.
According to him, the plan is designed to create new opportunities for investment, tourism and sustainable economic growth.
“There is enormous potential at the intersection of mining and tourism, and we are committed to unlocking it for the benefit of our country,” Alake stated.
The Geo-tourism initiative is expected to highlight Nigeria’s geological sites, mining heritage locations, and natural landscapes as tourist attractions while promoting conservation and community development.
The NTDA said the partnership aligns with Federal Government efforts to diversify the economy and expand the contribution of tourism and solid minerals to national revenue.
