Nigerian singer Davido has won Album of the Year at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) for his fifth studio album, “5IVE.” AFRIMMA confirmed the result on its official Instagram page on Tuesday, September 15.
The ceremony took place on September 12 at Annette Strauss Square in Dallas. This year’s event marked AFRIMMA’s return after a two-year break. Organizers paired the awards with the first AFRIMMA music festival, which included performances, dance showcases, food vendors, and fashion displays.
Davido entered the ceremony as the most-nominated artist of the year, with five nods. Alongside Album of the Year, he was nominated for Artist of the Year, Best Male West Africa, and the Crossing Boundaries With Music award. His collaboration with fellow Nigerian singer Omah Lay, “With You,” also earned nominations for Best Collaboration and Song of the Year.
“5IVE” won Album of the Year against a competitive shortlist that included Black Sherif’s “Top of the Morning Era,” Omah Lay’s “Clarity of Mind,” Asake’s “M$NEY,” Tyla’s “A-Pop,” Burna Boy’s “No Sign of Weakness,” Lloyiso’s “Never Thought I Could,” Leigh-Anne’s “My Ego Told Me To,” and Himra’s “SORRY I’M BAD.”
“5IVE” was released on April 18, 2025, through Davido Music Worldwide, Columbia Records, and Sony Music Entertainment. It is Davido’s fifth studio album and the follow-up to “Timeless,” released in 2023. The album features collaborations with Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, and Omah Lay, among others. Its four official singles were “Awuke,” released October 31, 2024; “Funds,” released December 6, 2024; “Be There Still,” released March 14, 2025; and “Offa Me,” released April 17, 2025.
“5IVE” opened strongly on streaming platforms. It recorded more than 15 million global Spotify streams within its first full day and set a new record for the most single-day streams of any album on Spotify Nigeria in 2025, at 9.3 million. By May 2025, the album had passed 200 million total streams on Spotify, placing it among the most-streamed Afrobeats albums to date.

On the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart, “Offa Me,” featuring Victoria Monét, debuted at number five and was the album’s most-streamed track that week, with 1.37 million official US streams. “Titanium,” featuring Chris Brown, opened at number six with 900,000 streams, while “With You,” featuring Omah Lay, opened at number seven with 1 million streams. In total, Davido placed 16 songs from the album simultaneously on the chart that week, one short of his personal best of 17 entries, set with “Timeless” in April 2023.
News of the win drew a wide range of responses online. Many fans congratulated Davido directly. One fan wrote, “Congratulations OBO.” Another called the win the “biggest” news of the day.
