Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has taken his first babymama, Sophia Momodu, to court to seek custody of their daughter, Imade.
Davido’s lawyers filed a motion at the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024, requesting joint custody of Imade Adeleke. Alternatively, he asked for unrestricted access to his daughter.
The case, labeled LD/1587PMC/2024, lists Davido as the applicant and Sophia Momodu as the respondent.
In a 44-paragraph affidavit, Davido explained that his relationship with Momodu ended years ago, but they agreed to co-parent their daughter, born on May 14, 2015.
Davido stated he has been paying all of Imade’s school fees to ensure she gets the best education and has also provided money for Momodu’s apartment rent.
He said he bought a N200 million apartment in a secure community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, for Momodu and their daughter, but Momodu refused to move in, insisting he continue paying N5 million annually for a rented place.
To cater to Imade’s needs, Davido bought a Range Rover SUV for Momodu and Imade’s use. When the SUV needed repairs, he provided another vehicle, a Highlander SUV, and N5.8 million for the Range Rover’s repairs.
Davido also committed to covering living expenses, nanny fees, medical care, insurance, and international travel costs for their daughter.
Despite these efforts, Davido claimed Momodu made unreasonable demands, including a $800 monthly nanny fee and a lump sum payment of $19,600 annually.
Davido said that despite his contributions, Momodu has treated him cruelly, causing him pain.
Davido and Sophia have had frequent conflicts. In 2021, Sophia expressed her disappointment that their daughter took Davido’s last name instead of hers, revealing on Instagram that she cried over this issue.
