Davido Flies Home for Israel DMW’s Father’s Burial

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, arrived in Nigeria on a private jet on Thursday, July 16, 2026, ahead of the burial of his aide Israel DMW’s father in Benin City, Edo State.

A video of the arrival, shared on Instagram, showed Israel DMW running to meet the singer at the airport, shouting, “My oga! My oga! On Sunday, we are outside!” Davido responded, “We are outside on Sunday, Benin City.”

The trip followed criticism directed at Davido days earlier for reportedly missing the burial. The new footage reversed much of that reaction, with social media users describing him as a supportive employer. One comment under the post read, “The best boss, best human ever.”

On Friday, July 17, Davido also performed at the 60th birthday celebration of Ogun State First Lady, Bamidele Abiodun. He arrived at the event in a Lamborghini Revuelto and performed two of his popular songs, “Fall” and “Aye,” to a large crowd. The birthday celebration had begun a day earlier with an event led by the Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adeleye, which included a visit to the Juvenile Correctional Center in Asero, Abeokuta.

Separately, Nollywood actor Zubby Michael spoke about his relationship with Davido in a recent interview, describing him as generous and supportive of people close to him. “I love Davido so much. He’s a great guy. He has a good heart,” Zubby Michael said, adding that Davido “wants people around him to succeed.”

Zubby Michael also recalled facing criticism after he was seen filming videos and shouting “OBO” during an early meeting with the singer. He said he dismissed the comments at the time, telling critics, “You’re not in any position to tell me how to react.” He added that Davido gave him his first experience flying on a private jet.

Davido is currently preparing for a show in London as part of promotion for his new album, Oriadé. On X, formerly Twitter, he announced that fans can pre-save the album through Monday, July 20, at 12 PM BST to gain pre-sale access for his Kentish Town show. Pre-sale tickets go on sale Tuesday, July 21, from 10 AM to 12 PM BST.
