Davido, Chimamanda, Joshua Selman, Named on Africa’s Visibility 50 List 2025

Several leading figures from Africa’s music, literature, film, faith and media sectors were named among the Visibility 50 Africa honourees for 2025.

The annual list, curated by Visibility 50 Africa, recognises individuals and brands that have built sustained public influence and engagement across the continent.

Among those recognised is Tofarati Ige, a journalist, poet and spoken-word artist popularly known as Grand Tycoon. Ige, who works as a lifestyle editor, was acknowledged for his contributions to journalism, literature and live performance, with a focus on African culture and contemporary experiences.

In 2025, Ige appeared at several major cultural and entertainment events, including Gbenga Adeyinka’s Laffmattazz (Lagos edition) and Asiri’s I Don’t Need Your Opinion show, expanding his presence in Nigeria’s live performance circuit. He is the author of Town Crier and Oriki, books that draw from African oral traditions while engaging modern themes of identity and memory.

Reacting to the recognition, Ige said:

“Visibility, when rooted in purpose, becomes responsibility. I see this not as a destination, but as a call to do more — to tell truer stories and build platforms where African creativity can thrive,” he said.

He added that his plans for 2026 include expanding his storytelling work across Africa and creating support platforms for emerging creatives.

The 2025 list also features prominent figures from the entertainment industry, including Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Funke Akindele and Bimbo Ademoye. According to industry data cited by the organisers, Nigerian musicians continued to dominate streaming platforms during the year, with projects by Wizkid, Davido and Asake ranking among the most streamed African releases in 2025.

Davido’s influence extended beyond music through international tours and brand partnerships, while Wizkid and Burna Boy maintained strong global visibility through consistent releases and performances. Ayra Starr recorded significant growth among younger audiences.

From the faith and literary sectors, Joshua Selman, Nathaniel Bassey and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie were also named. Adichie’s continued global literary influence and Selman and Bassey’s wide-reaching religious followings were cited as key factors in their inclusion.

Visibility 50 Africa said its goal is to spotlight Africans who use visibility strategically to build influence, shape narratives and inspire communities.
