Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi’s 2023 running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has explained why he parted ways with Obi, saying the former Anambra State governor has no clear plan for Nigeria.
Datti was Obi’s running mate on the LP platform in the 2023 presidential election.
Following the election, Obi moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he joined other opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, Datti said he would not support Obi and the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, at the expense of President Bola Tinubu without a compelling reason.

Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV, Datti said he had worked hard to support Obi but became concerned about the absence of a clear plan for the country.
He said, “I won’t unfairly help promote Baba Atiku and Peter Obi and others just for no good reason because we need to be fair in life, and that’s what I stand for.

“I worked really hard for Peter Obi, but his team doesn’t remember things very well. I let Peter Obi know that he needs to come up with a plan since he doesn’t have one yet.
“Peter Obi didn’t abandon me; I left because he doesn’t have a plan for Nigeria. Peter Obi knows I stood for him. I still stand by him. It’s sad to see the moves he made. But it is his choice.”
