Daniel Etim Effiong’s The Herd Hits ₦188 Million as it Debuts on Netflix

The Netflix crime thriller The Herd, directed by Nollywood actor Daniel Etim Effiong in his directorial debut, has maintained a steady run at the Nigerian box office, reaching ₦188 million in five weeks.

Data released by the Nigerian Box Office on November 18 shows that the film earned ₦12 million between November 14 and 16, maintaining its fifth-place position despite new releases entering the chart. Earlier in its run, The Herd led the box office between October 31 and November 2, earning ₦36.2 million that weekend and bringing its three-week total to ₦137.7 million.

According to the box-office report, titles that led the recent chart include:

  1. Now You See Me 3 — ₦34.2 million

  2. Predator: Badlands — ₦18.7 million

  3. The Running Man — ₦14.7 million

  4. Gingerrr — ₦14.4 million

  5. The Herd — ₦12 million

  6. 3 Cold Dishes — ₦10.4 million

The Herd has gained attention not only for its earnings but also for its storyline, which focuses on kidnapping, community vulnerability, and the pressures placed on families during violent crime. The film is set in Ekiti and follows a couple and their friends whose journey is disrupted by a criminal group posing as herders. The plot includes parallel events involving ransom negotiations, family tensions, and a police investigation linking the crime to a wider network.

The production features performances by Daniel Etim Effiong, Genoveva Umeh, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Kunle Remi, Lateef Adedimeji, and others. Reviewers have noted the film’s attention to detail in its setting, costuming, and portrayal of social pressures, including cultural prejudice affecting one of the lead characters.

With its continued earnings and sustained audience interest, The Herd has emerged as one of the most notable Nollywood titles of the period.

The film has made its debut on Netflix on Friday, a move expected to draw wider viewership beyond cinemas.
