Dangote Refinery Seals $350m Deal to Scale Output to 1.4m Barrels Daily

Dangote Group has signed a contract valued at over 350 million dollars with India’s Engineers India Limited to oversee a major expansion of its Lekki based refinery.

Engineers India Limited disclosed that it will act as project management consultant as well as engineering, procurement and construction management consultant for the upgrade, a role it previously played during the delivery of the existing 650000 barrels per day facility commissioned in 2024.

The new phase will add a second processing line, lifting total capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day and deepening the production of Euro VI compliant fuels. The expansion also targets a sharp increase in petrochemical output, with plans to raise polypropylene production from 830000 tonnes per year to 2.4 million tonnes through upgrades and new installations.

The News Chronicle understands that the renewed partnership reflects confidence in Engineers India Limited’s execution track record and Dangote’s push to position Nigeria as a global refining hub.

Once completed, the expanded complex is expected to become the largest single site refinery in the world, surpassing India’s Jamnagar facility.

Located in the Lekki Free Zone, the 19 billion dollar Dangote Refinery has already begun producing diesel, aviation fuel and petrol, easing Nigeria’s long standing dependence on imported fuel.

Industry watchers say the expansion could further strengthen regional energy security and boost intra African fuel trade.
