Dangote Refinery Retains Top Spot as Europe’s Biggest Jet Fuel Supplier

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has maintained its position as Europe’s largest supplier of imported jet fuel for the second consecutive month, overtaking the United States in the process.

Data put together by commodities data and analytics company Kpler revealed that Nigerian refineries supplied more than 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Europe in July, representing about 20 per cent of total jet fuel imports into the EU.

The News Chronicle reports that Nigeria’s share came on the back of a record 466,000 tonnes of jet fuel sent to Europe in June, making it the biggest supplier of the aircraft fuel to the continent for the first time overtaking the US.

The latest figure shows that Europe imported 2.06 million tonnes of jet fuel in July with Dangote’s share being the biggest. The refinery attributed the growth in exports to increased production, as well as the proximity of the Lekki export terminal and state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Jet fuel loading at the export terminal for the refinery hit 550,000 tonnes in June, while crude oil deliveries peaked at 660,000 barrels per day.

Meanwhile, the refinery has ramped up petrol, diesel, and other petroleum products exports to Europe and Africa, further boosting Nigeria’s profile as a key player in the refined products market.
