Dangote Refinery Moves To Fully Supply Nigeria With Petrol From December

—

Beginning December 2025, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has said it is ready to take total control for Nigeria’s home gasoline supply.

The refinery said it will provide 1.5 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit per month, or around 50 million litres per day.

From February 2026, the volume is projected to reach 1.7 billion litres per month. A letter to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority signed by David Bird, Chief Executive Officer of the company on November 30, 2025, specified this promise.

The News Chronicle gathered that the refinery officially wants NMDPRA representatives stationed onsite from December 1st to validate and publicly share its daily output and stock counts.

At a moment when Nigerians keep asking for more transparency throughout the industry, this method aims to eliminate speculation around supply levels and strengthen domestic fuel market transparency.

In the letter, Dangote Refinery appealed for seamless clearance of crude oil, feedstocks and blending inputs, noting that delays in vessel approvals have disrupted operations and imposed avoidable costs on consumers.

The refinery said uninterrupted logistics would allow it to meet national fuel needs efficiently, particularly under the federal government’s Nigeria First policy, which prioritises domestic production over import dependence.

The refinery’s offer comes as the downstream sector continues to battle supply gaps. Latest NMDPRA data shows that Nigeria consumed an average of 56.74 million litres of petrol daily in October 2025. Out of this amount, 27.6 million litres came from imports, while 17.08 million litres were provided by local refineries.

Regulators say the gradual shift toward increased domestic supply reflects progress in the government’s long term goal of securing self-sufficiency in petrol production.
