Top security firms have issued a warning to organizers of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France over a potential cyber attack.
The sporting event which will attract a large number of people including top government officials is set to hold in a months time.
Organizers have been advised to have a solid defensive mechanisms in place to ward off cyber threats.
Tech giant Google indicated that cyber espionage groups are likely to target the Olympics for information-gathering, especially due calibre of people attending.
The threat actors may engage in website defacements, DDoS attacks, malware deployment, operational technology targeting, spreading disinformation, ticket scams, theft of PII, and social engineering operations.
Mandiant (part of Google Cloud) has identified Russian threat groups as the biggest risk, with China, Iran, and North Korea posing low to moderate risks.
Pro-Russian information operation campaigns, known as “Doppelganger,” may target inauthentic domains and social media accounts in multiple languages.
Sponsors are also at risk from state-sponsored actors and destructive campaigns like extortion.
To prevent these cyber attacks, companies should update threat profiles and increase awareness among people working.
