The Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Dr Abel Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF).
The President of the coalition, Mr Dominic Ogakwu, gave the commendation in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.
Ogakwu said the appointment demonstrated the President’s recognition of experience, professionalism and competence as key factors in strengthening Nigeria’s public service.
He described Enitan as a seasoned civil servant whose years of service had equipped him with the administrative expertise and institutional knowledge required to lead the Federal Civil Service.
According to him, Enitan’s extensive experience in the Federal Civil Service would position him to consolidate ongoing reforms and improve service delivery.
“Dr Enitan has demonstrated credibility, integrity, professionalism and competence throughout his career in public service.
“His understanding of the system, combined with his commitment to institutional development and nation-building, makes him a perfect fit for this important national assignment,” Ogakwu said.
He said Enitan’s appointment came at a critical period when Nigeria needed a more efficient, accountable and results-driven Civil Service capable of effectively implementing government policies and delivering tangible benefits to citizens.
The group expressed confidence that the new HCSF would promote merit, discipline, professionalism, digital transformation and improved service delivery across the Federal Civil Service.
It also urged him to strengthen accountability mechanisms and deepen institutional reforms to make the public service more responsive and effective.
CSGGG congratulated Enitan on his appointment and called on him to deploy his wealth of experience towards building a modern, productive and citizen-focused Civil Service.
The coalition also pledged civil society support for initiatives that promote transparency, accountability, professionalism and effective public service delivery.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Enitan will succeed Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
Enitan, an indigene of Osun, is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.
He has served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months, including at the Ministries of Police Affairs and Humanitarian Affairs, as well as the Office of the Vice President.
He is currently the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education.
His appointment as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation takes effect on Aug.
