The scramble for vacant slots in the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has thrown the Abia State chapter of the party in disarray, with two nominated for the office of national welfare officer.

It was gathered that some stakeholders in the state blatantly rejected nomination of one Rev Dan Imo by the state executive committee on March 28, 2023 to fill the NWC slot.

The grouse of Imo’s nomination, it was learnt, is that he was just two years old in the party and lacks the political experience or clout to occupy a national position.

A dependable source who did not want his name in print said that the Abia SEC acted in violation of extant laws regarding such nominations.

Already, party stakeholders in the state are angling for a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Martins Azubuike, as a nominee for the NWC slot.

Azubuike who served as the 5th Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly was also a deputy gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 general

election.
