COVID-19: Sokoto tracks 11 returnees

The State Commissioner of Health, Muhammad Ali Inname made the remarks during a media briefing held at the emergency unit of state specialist Hospital.

He said the state government upon closure of its border with its sister States ordered the implementation of 10 checkpoints across the state at Kuchi, Alasan, Sanyinna, Malisa, Bimasa, Jabo, Gada, Sabon Birni, Illela and Rabah.

The commissioner further stated that the rapid response team has continued to track persons of interest (returnees from international trips) in which a total of 11 persons are tracked and two of them have completed their mandatory 14 days isolation. Saying that the team would continue to track both new and old returnees daily.

Inname informed that the state task force committee on COVID-19 would work closely with PMOs of General Hospitals, Local government Directors of health and traditional rulers to track local returnees from COVID-19 affected states.

He said already the state has commenced the distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) to major Hospitals in the state.

The commissioner, however, expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation of individuals and corporate organizations towards combating the Corona Virus pandemic in Sokoto state.

The corporate organizations that assisted the state are BUA Group that gave One hundred million naira, UBA Bank Plc 28.5 million naira and Access Bank Plc which pledge to build and equip laboratory and ward in the isolation centre at Amanawa.
