Covid-19: Gov Tambuwal Inaugurates 40 volunteers

Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has inaugurated 40 volunteers to help the state in its fight against Coronavirus.

The Governor while inaugurating the forty man volunteer group expressed his appreciation to members of the state task force committee on Covid-19 for the job well-done.

He said the sacrifice made by members of the task force was highly commendable when compared with the attitude of some health personnel in other states of the federation where some health workers abandoned their duty post for fear of the unknown.

According to him, the state government would adequately support members of the volunteer group financially and otherwise to be able to perform their voluntary assignment diligently.

He further expressed his determination to fight the spread of the Coronavirus and other communicable diseases with all available tools to keep the state safe.

He explained that the rate at which the virus is claiming lives in the state is very alarming, saying all hands have to be on deck to free the state of the dreaded virus.

Tambuwal, however, stated that the state government has procured face masks for distribution free to the people of the state.

He said the state government has already set aside two major Hotels in the state to serve as isolation centres in the event the number of those suffering from the virus keep rising.

He applauded the leadership of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto under the leadership of Archbishop Mathew Hassan Kukah for giving out to the state their guest house also to serve as isolation centre in case the need arises.

“The state government is willing to partner with individuals, groups and corporate organizations in the fight against the common enemy Covid-19.

He said the curfew imposed by the state government is only a replica of the federal government directives that gave the order for States to place the curfew.

Earlier in his remarks, the state commissioner for health and taskforce chairman Dr Muhammad Ali Inname expressed delight with the level of support the taskforce committee enjoyed from the state government.

He said the fight against the virus started in the state, the Governor has been up and doing in trying to contain the spread of the virus into urban and rural areas of the state

He said with the inauguration of the volunteers, the fight against the virus would achieve a great success especially among the rural populace.

Inname further said each of the volunteers would be paid a motivational allowance of 15,000 naira daily.

He commended the volunteers who were mainly health personnel for their courage and determination to help the state at this trying moment.
