The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge against Adeniyi Adeyemi, the 38-year-old accused of posing as Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), paving the way for his fresh arraignment before another court.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge on Monday following an application by the Federal Government, which said a review of the case revealed that it should be prosecuted before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
At the proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, moved the application for the termination of the trial.
Oyedepo told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had reviewed the case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police and identified some legal issues.
He explained that the documents Adeyemi allegedly forged while operating the purported agency fell within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
The prosecution disclosed that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court, adding that the defendant would be arraigned there without delay.
Oyedepo consequently urged Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge in accordance with the law.
Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application, prompting the judge to grant the request and terminate the proceedings.
Adeyemi had been facing trial alongside two other defendants, identified only as Femi and Anu, who are reportedly at large.
The eight-count charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025, bordered on conspiracy and forgery and was filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation.
