Court Jails Bandit Kingpin’s Associate 20 Years for Shielding Notorious Arms Supplier

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Muhammad Sani, an associate of notorious bandit and arms supplier Danranmi, to 20 years’ imprisonment for concealing information that could have led to the fugitive’s arrest.

Delivering judgment on Monday, Justice Emeka Nwite convicted Sani, who was arrested and prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS), on terrorism-related charges.

The court sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment on each of counts one and two without the option of a fine, ordering that both terms run concurrently.

Justice Nwite ruled that the sentence would take effect from January 11, 2023, the date Sani was arrested.

The DSS had arraigned Sani on a four-count charge bordering on terrorism-related offenses, accusing him of withholding information capable of leading to the arrest of Danranmi, a notorious arms supplier to kidnappers and bandits.

The offenses are contrary to Section 26(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and punishable under Section 16(1)(b) of the same Act.
