Corporate Affairs Commission to Shut Down All Unregistered PoS Operators From January 1, 2026

—

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced that it will launch a nationwide crackdown on all unregistered Point of Sale (PoS) operators starting January 1, 2026.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Commission warned that every PoS operator must be properly registered with the CAC as required by the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Agent Banking Regulations.
Any operator who fails to comply will be shut down immediately. Security agencies have been instructed to enforce the directive across the country.
The CAC explained that many unregistered PoS operators  often backed by some fintech companies  pose a threat to the nation’s financial system and put citizens’ investments at risk. It said such activities can no longer be tolerated.
According to the Commission, any PoS terminals found to be operating illegally will be seized or closed by security officials. Fintech companies that enable unregistered operators will also be placed on a watchlist and reported to the CBN.
The CAC urged all PoS operators to register their businesses without delay, stressing that compliance is compulsory.
This move marks a stronger government effort to regulate the rapidly growing PoS sector, which now plays a major role in Nigeria’s financial system.
