Construction of Maiduguri’s third flyover begins in Borno

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has started building another flyover in Maiduguri.

He did this with Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan and Bukar Tijjani, the secretary to Borno State Government. The project is the third one under Zulum’s leadership and should finish in one year.

Zulum began the first flyover in 2020 near the custom roundabout, which former President Muhammadu Buhari opened. The second flyover, finished this year, is waiting for its official opening.

During the project launch, Zulum said his goal is to improve cities in Borno State, as he promised during his election campaign. He wants to upgrade facilities in Maiduguri and other major areas.

“In fulfilment of our electioneering campaign to ensure urban renewal of some major cities in Borno State, especially Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, the government of Borno State is serious about uplifting and upgrading facilities within the Metropolitan Council,” Zulum said.

“We have constructed two flyovers; this will be the third one and, in Sha Allah, before we leave office, we will ensure the completion of all the structures we have initiated”, the governor stated.

The governor emphasized that the new flyover isn’t just for looks. It aims to ease traffic and create job opportunities for young people.

Zulum stated that half of the money for the project is already with the contractor, Eighteenth Engineering Company (EEC), and promised to pay promptly.

The Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr Mustapha Gubio, explained that the bridge will be 470m long and will have two piers, two abutments, and three spans.

It will stretch from west to east along Sir Kashim Road. Safety features like elastomer bearings and barriers for pedestrians will be included.

The representative of EEC, Mr. Gao Kun, assured Governor Zulum of delivering quality work on time.
