Construction of Lagos Film City Begins

Development for the Lagos Film City on 100 hectares of land, has commenced in Ketu-Ejirin, Epe area in Lagos State. The project was flagged off by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, 18 October 2023. According to Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, “the project will be executed via a public-private-partnership model. She highlighted Lagos Film City as an investment opportunity in the creative industry for locals and Nigerians in the diaspora who may be interested in partnering with the state government on the initiative.

He said that the aim of the Film City was to foster “a thriving and vibrant film industry” that would captivate global audiences, contribute to Lagos State’s economic growth and cultural development, and serve as a catalyst for innovation, talent discovery, and storytelling excellence among young talents.

The $100 million film city covers a land area of 100 hectares of land which will be “ equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, sound stages, editing suites, production offices, and everything necessary to bring the magic of the silver screen to life.”

The facility would be utilized to inspire, entertain, and educate in order to nurture the arts and support the dreams of aspiring filmmakers, actors, and technicians… to shine on both local and global stages. Film production, post-production, visual effects, and all the ancillary services that support filmmaking will be carried out there once it is completed.
