Raphaël Varane and Como are discussing a potential contract termination as the player considers retiring.
French defender Raphaël Varane, currently with Como, is contemplating retirement from football due to recurring injuries, according to Fabrizio Romano:
“After his recent injury, Varane is seriously considering leaving professional football to focus on a new chapter immediately. His contract termination has already been discussed with Como, the Italian club he joined this summer.”
Varane, 31, has suffered numerous injuries, one of the reasons his contract with Manchester United was not renewed by the Red Devils. This summer, he secured a move to the Italian side Como, where Cesc Fàbregas now coaches. Unfortunately, his opportunities to continue playing have been hindered by a fresh injury.
Varane was absent from Como’s game yesterday against Atalanta, in which they defeated their opponents 3-2 away from home, marking their first-ever victory in 23 years in Italy’s top-flight league.
Varane, during his time at Real Madrid—where he made the majority of his appearances—as well as at Manchester United and with the French National Team, has won 20 professional trophies, including 4 UEFA Champions League titles, a World Cup, 3 La Liga titles, 4 Club World Cups, 3 UEFA Super Cups, a Copa del Rey, a Nations League, and 3 Supercopa de España titles.
Since making his professional debut in 2010, Varane has made 480 club appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing 8 assists.
After progressing through France’s U18 and U21 teams, he earned his senior cap with the national team in 2013 and has played 93 times for France, scoring 5 goals.
