In the Community Shield, Manchester City emerged victorious over Manchester United in the Manchester derby, clinching the title after a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regular time.
In the first half, neither team could break the deadlock. Manchester City dominated possession with 57% compared to Manchester United’s 43%, but City had no shots on target while United managed just one.
The second half remained scoreless until Alejandro Garnacho gave United the lead in the 82nd minute, bringing them close to a second consecutive cup final victory over City. However, Bernardo Silva’s late equalizer in the 89th minute dashed United’s hopes.
After 90 minutes, the match was decided by a penalty shootout, where Manchester City celebrated their first title of the season as Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans missed their penalties.
