The inaugural 32-team FIFA Club World Cup kicked off on.
June 15, with several historic moments on the first day of the tournament.
In Groups A and B, Inter Miami was held to a goalless draw by African giants Al Ahly. Bayern Munich recorded the biggest victory of the day, thrashing Auckland City of New Zealand 10-0. UEFA Champions League winners PSG outclassed Atletico Madrid in another dominant performance.
What Happened?
Inter Miami, despite having star players like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets, couldn’t find the back of the net against Al Ahly. In fact, Al Ahly nearly took the lead before halftime but missed a penalty kick.
Auckland City, whose players and staff mostly work part-time with various organizations, had a dismal outing as they were demolished 10-0 by Bayern Munich. Michael Olise, who was named Man of the Match, Thomas Müller, and Kingsley Coman each scored a brace. Jamal Musiala scored a hat-trick, while S. Boey added one more in Bayern’s rampage against the New Zealand side.
Champions League winners PSG also began their campaign with a perfect start, defeating Atletico Madrid 4-0 in Group A. Ruiz, Vitinha, and S. Mayulu all scored, while K. Lee converted a penalty to seal the victory.
PSG and Bayern Munich now lead their respective Groups A and B. The tournament continues today with teams from the other groups set to take action.
