Cholera Kills 10 In Adamawa

A cholera outbreak in Adamawa State has led to the death of at least 10 people, according to reports from health officials.

The outbreak, which began over the weekend, has also resulted in 76 confirmed cases.

The Chairman of Yola-North Local Government Area, Jibril Ibrahim, initially reported four deaths and 40 cases, but the situation has worsened.

Medical staff at the Yola Specialist Hospital revealed that many patients arrived in critical condition, making it difficult to save them.

Officials attributed the high fatality rate to delays in seeking proper medical care, with many people opting for home remedies and herbs until their conditions deteriorated.

Efforts to control the outbreak have been initiated, including a campaign against waterborne diseases launched by the state’s health authorities in response to flooding in August.

However, health workers are calling for greater support from the state government and the cooperation of local communities to curb the spread of the disease.

Despite repeated attempts to reach the Adamawa State Commissioner of Health, Felix Tangwami, for comments, he remained unavailable.
