Child Trafficking Syndicate Operating Baby Factory, Busted In Anambra

Awka – The Police in Anambra State has uncovered a baby factory at Oba Community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The illegal human business transaction was busted when police operatives attached to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) and Area Command, Oraifite, raided the house of one Mrs Melvina Uju Uba, located opposite Nnamdi Azikiwe Orthopedic Teaching Hospital Oba.

Following the raid, five newborn babies and 3 other children were rescued.

Also, ten suspects were nabbed including five heavily pregnant women.

Among the suspects were Edna Nnadi, aged 37 years, Ujunwa Nweke, aged 25years, Izuchukwu Uba, aged 24 years, Chinaza Ibeh, aged 19years and Peace Okon Effiong, aged 25years.

Others were Gift Collins, aged 20years, Chimkaso Kingsley, aged 25years, Happiness Monday, aged 18years, Chioma Okonkwo, aged 25years and Uchechukwu Nwankwo, aged 18years.

TNC correspondent gathered that the place was raided following credible information that teenage girls were being impregnated and the babies sold out by human traffickers.

Commenting on the operation, the State Police Commissioner, John Abang who spoke through the State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said the rescued children will be handed over to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Children and Women’s Affairs for proper care.

He revealed that effort is being intensified to apprehend other accomplices in order to bring them to justice.
