Chelsea FC has announced the permanent signing of Portuguese forward João Félix from Atlético Madrid on a seven-year contract.
João spent his 2022-23 campaign on loan at Chelsea from Atlético Madrid, where he registered 20 appearances with 4 goals to his name. Last season, he was on loan at Barcelona, where he made 44 appearances with 16 goal contributions.
During his interview after his contract with Chelsea, Félix said:
“I’m really happy to be back at Chelsea, and I can’t wait to get started,” João said. “I can see some familiar faces from the last time I was here, which is always nice.
“I loved my time here before, and I told my friends and family that I’d love to return to the Premier League one day. To do that with Chelsea is a great feeling, and I’m excited to be back.”
The 24-year-old began his career with Benfica in his homeland before moving to the Spanish capital in the summer of 2019 to join Atlético—a record fee for both clubs.
Enzo Maresca revealed he is happy as the Portuguese rejoined Chelsea on a permanent deal:
“We are very happy to have João because, first of all, he is a very good player,” Enzo said of our new signing at his pre-Servette press conference.
“He is a very talented player, and of course, the club already knows him very well from when he was here two years ago.
“We really like him as a player, and the good thing about João is that he can play many positions, which is very helpful for us. That’s one of the reasons why we have signed him. He’s a very good player, and we are happy to have him here.”
