Two Chelsea fans who were injured in Naples before the team’s vital Champions League match against Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium have been admitted to hospital. The injuries are said to be not life threatening.
Earlier, the Premier League team asked traveling supporters to be alert while in Italy and to refrain from flaunting team colours when visiting Naples. Approximately 2,500 Chelsea fans are projected to be present for the game, which marks the end of the Champions League league phase this year.
The News Chronicle can confirm that the event happened on Tuesday night and caused Chelsea to send out a new plea for caution, advising supporters to abide by safety instructions already issued prior the trip.
The game has significant qualification ramifications on the field. Chelsea are eighth in the standings and are in a good position to get automatic advancement to the round of 16. The London club, however, have not yet won away this season and have a difficult test versus the Italian champions.
Chelsea’s chances of missing the playoff round would be much improved by victory; defeat might cause them to fall out of the top eight among a tightly packed table.
