Nigerians are quite interesting people when it comes to what and who gets their attention. A Lot has happened in 2003 especially the change in Governance from the election, the fuel subsidy, the loss in the entertainment industry, some celebrities were involved in certain scandals and of course the music industry making waves in Afrobeat.
This year, Nigerians were clearly interested in entertainment, as evidenced by searches for “Gangs of Lagos,” “Shanty Town,” and “Soso lyrics,” all of which led the movie, video series, and lyrics categories, respectively.
The results of Google’s 2023 Year in Search for Nigeria have been released, with Nigerian actress Moyo Lawal, late musician Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, aka Mohbad, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and celebrated film Gang of Lagos topping the list.
Google’s Year in Search is an annual study that highlights the most popular lists as well as the things that people search for online to see, learn, and do.
According to this year’s statistics, Nigerians are more interested in local politics and lifestyle, with well-known characters like Moyo Lawal, Peter Obi, and Oladips at the top of the list of most searched people in 2023.
Nigerian artist Mohbad. Yoruba actor Murphy Alabi and actor and film producer Saint Obi, whom died this year, topped the list for loss, with Mohbad also leading the list for the most searched Nigerian news topic in 2023.
Other popular searches include “Who will be the winner of the 2023 presidential election?” and “What is a fuel subsidy?” revealed how concerned Nigerians were in the country’s political and economic concerns in 2023, and how Google Search was utilized to discover more about their interests
As with other platforms, Asake led the musician category, followed by Shallipopi and Khaid.These musicians had a good run this year and it is clear on other music platforms. And Hilda Bacis Guiness record was not left behind as well.
