South African coach Gordon Igesund has said that the Bafana Bafana will be offensive in their game against Nigeria today owing to the fact that they want to defeat Nigeria summarily. The Super Eagles and the Bafana Bafana are in their last group “A” encounter in the African Nations Championship.
The South African team needs just a draw to scale through to the quarter-final owing to the fact that it has four points already while the Nigerian team has just three points. However, Igesund believes an outright defeat of the Super Eagles will be satisfactory.
Speaking about the much anticipated Nigerian-South African match, Igesund said, “Why should I be scared of Nigeria? We’re not scared of anybody. We’ve just beaten Spain; I should be scared of Nigeria?”
“My philosophy has always been play to win. When you start thinking about trying to play for a draw, you start doing wrong things”, he said.
He continued, “We know that Nigeria is going into this game with only one thing on their mind, and that’s to win the game. We will be offensive against them, that’s the plan, we want to go forward”.
He concluded, “I want to attack them down the sides, have over-lapping fullbacks and let’s ask questions, we need to ask a lot of questions defensively and we’ll try and do that.”
