Champions League: Messi Sails Barcelona to the Semi-Final as Juventus Crash Out

Soccer wizard, Lionel Messi  was the hero of the night as his side, Barcelona, edged out Manchester United in one of the Champions League second leg quarter final matches played on Tuesday. The Argentine scored twice in 16th and 20th minutes on the night at Nou Camp before the presence of thousands of Barca supporters to sail the Spanish side through to the Semi-final and send the English side parking. Fellow South American compatriot, Brazillian Phillipe Coutinho completed the rout in the 60th minute after a terrible error from David de Gea to take Barcelona’s tally to 4-0 on aggregate. Ernesto Vervede’s side had  one goal advantage going into the second leg after beating Ole Gunner Solkjeer’s charges at Old Trafford a fourth night ago.

In the other game, Christiano Ronaldo’s hope of winning the Champions League with the Italian giant, Juventus was a castle built in the air as the surprise team of the League; Ajax shocked the Old Lady 3-2 on aggregate in Turin to reach the semi-final for the first time since 1997. The first leg ended 1-1 in Amsterdam a fourth night ago.

Ronaldo scored in the 28th minute to heighten the hope of Juventus of progressing to the next stage of the competition, but that was not to be as goals from Van de Beek and De Ligt in the 33rd and 69th minutes respectively ensured Ajax’s Qualification to the semi-final.
