Champions League: Barcelona Fined for Racist Behavior and Misconduct against PSG

The Spanish outfit, Barcelona, has been fined for racist behavior and other actions by their fans in their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, the home ground of Barcelona.

The event, which occurred on Tuesday, saw Barcelona fans engaging in racial abuse targeted at PSG players. They were also involved in lighting fireworks and causing damage at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

The Spanish club is expected to pay a fine of 32,000 euros (£27,000) as punishment for their gross misconduct.

Barcelona were beaten 4-1 at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys following Araujo’s early red card. The La Liga champions were unable to resist the large margin defeat after having defeated PSG 3-2 at the Parc des Princes last week.

According to the BBC, included in Barcelona’s fine is a ban from selling away tickets to their supporters for their next match in a UEFA competition as punishment for the racist behavior, although the ban is suspended for a probationary period of one year.

UEFA has also instructed Barcelona to contact Paris Saint-Germain within 30 days to discuss the process of fixing all damaged items in the stadium.
