CGC Adeniyi pledges full support for President Bola Tinubu’s 8-point agenda

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, recently articulated his steadfast commitment to bolstering the non-oil export sector in alignment with the priorities set forth by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. 
Speaking at a quarterly press briefing held at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, 3rd April 2024, CGC Adeniyi underscored the pivotal role of the Customs Service in advancing the economic agenda of the government.
Emphasizing the significance of President Tinubu’s decision to reopen the Northern Borders with Niger Republic, the CGC expressed optimism about the resultant surge in trading activities within those regions.
He lauded the move as a catalyst for economic growth and underscored the Customs Service’s unwavering dedication to supporting the realization of the 8-point agenda outlined by the Tinubu-led administration.
CGC Adeniyi delineated the multifaceted approach adopted by the Nigeria Customs Service to contribute directly and indirectly to key areas such as economic development, enhanced security, adherence to the rule of law, and the fight against corruption.
 He highlighted notable achievements, including the augmentation of economic growth through optimal revenue collection to bolster government allocations to critical sectors, coupled with the implementation of streamlined trade facilitation measures.
Moreover, CGC Adeniyi articulated the Customs Service’s strategic plan to harness technology across its operational domains to ensure heightened transparency and accountability.
 This initiative, he stressed, aligns with pivotal aspects of the 8-point agenda and underscores the Service’s commitment to modernization and efficiency.
Addressing the pressing issue of food scarcity in the country, CGC Adeniyi affirmed that the Nigeria Customs Service has prioritized food security in response to a presidential directive.
He outlined concrete steps taken, including the distribution of food items to vulnerable segments of society, with initial efforts concentrated in Lagos and Kano, and plans to extend assistance to other regions to address urgent societal needs.
Furthermore, CGC Adeniyi underscored the paramount importance of transparency and accountability under his leadership, emphasizing the pivotal role these principles play in fostering trust and confidence in the Customs Service.
He called upon Nigerians to continue offering their unwavering support and cooperation as the Nigeria Customs Service endeavors to facilitate trade, ensure security, and uphold the rule of law.
 CGC Adeniyi reiterated the Customs Service’s unwavering resolve to overcome challenges and realize shared objectives for a prosperous future.
He affirmed, that the Customs Service serves as a testament to the relentless efforts undertaken to fortify border enforcement, streamline trade processes, and propel economic advancement forward.
“We have the capacity to surmount obstacles and realise our shared objectives for a brighter future. In essence, today’s briefing underscored our persistent efforts to strengthen border enforcement, streamline trade, and foster economic advancement.”
