The Central Bank of Nigeria is set to offer N700 billion in Nigerian Treasury Bills today, August 26, in the second and final scheduled auction for the month.
The offer calls for approved money market dealers to provide bids of N100 billion for the 91-day bill, N100 billion for the 182-day instrument, and N500 billion for the 364-day bill.
The News Chronicle reports that after significant interest at the August 12 sale, when bidders put N4.4 trillion against the N700 billion available, the auction comes. With N4.19 trillion in subscriptions, the 364 day bill generated the most interest.
The CBN later distributed roughly N1.46 trillion, more than the stated amount, while the stop rate on the 364 day bill increased from 17.35 to 17.59 per cent.
The results of today’s auction will offer yet another sign of how much government bonds appeal to investors and which way short-term interest rates are headed.
Market players will also be monitoring the 364 day tenor closely to see if the CBN keeps the greater rate seen at the last auction or starts the rate cuts noted all throughout July.
The most recent sale fits the CBN’s N5.8 trillion Treasury Bills issuing plan for the third quarter of 2026.
