CAF Nears Conclusion on AFCON Final Controversy after Rabat Walkout Drama

Following events that slightly bothered the title decider in Rabat, the Confederation of African Football is projected to release its ruling on the disciplinary action arising from the dramatic 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal.

The game was called for around 14 minutes after Senegalese players left the field in protest against a late penalty given to Morocco. Though Senegal finally came back to complete the match and triumphed, the incident drew severe criticism from FIFA and CAF President Gianni Infantino, who stated the images were revolting.

The News Chronicle understands CAF is under pressure to fast resolve the situation among conflicting claims from both parties. Morocco has requested the football body to deprive Senegal of the title since it asserts the walkout was a withdrawal under CAF rules that cancelled the remainder of the game.

CAF sources claim the disciplinary board is considering if any violation of competition standards occurred and what, if any, penalties would be appropriate. Possible outcomes range from suspensions to sanctions depending on the results.

CAF appointed a Kenyan official as head of its disciplinary committee to avoid bias accusations. Among the key pieces of evidence under review are steward and officer tales of misbehavior, VAR audio recordings, referee communications from stoppage time, and accounts of misbehavior.

Once a decision has been reached, football associations would be formally notified; CAF is expected to release an official statement.
