The Confederation of Africa Football has expressed grievance over the death of Mauritanian national team goalkeeper, Mohamed El Mokhtar, who died following a brutal head collision in training on Sunday.Â
Part of the statement from CAF website reads:
“The 21-year-old goalkeeper sadly lost his life due to an unforeseen collision while at training, which resulted in head trauma that saw the young goalkeeper sadly passing.”
CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, expressing his condolences to the entire Mauritanians, the South African prayed for the deceased wishing him eternal rest.
“CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Mohamed El Mokhtar’s family, club, and the Mauritanian Football Federation.
“May the soul of Mohamed El Mokhtar rest in peace. “
According to reports, the goalkeeper slumped while training with his club, AS Douanes then encountered a prolonged coma before he passed away.
Mauritanian Football Federation expressed their sympathy with the family of the deceased, highlighting his prowess in the game
“Despite his youth, Al-Mokhtar’s remarkable skills propelled him through the ranks, from representing the junior national team to earning a spot on the senior national team.
“His colleagues remember him for his sincerity, professionalism, and admirable character,” it stated.
