An Abuja Magistrates’ Court has directed a businessman, Musa Ibrahim, to carry out daily cleaning of the Annur Mosque premises in Wuse II for a period of one month after being found guilty of stealing electrical cable.
Presiding Magistrate Lami Sani delivered the ruling after the defendant admitted to charges bordering on mischief and theft.
Before sentencing, Ibrahim pleaded for mercy, assuring the court that he had turned a new leaf and would not repeat such misconduct.
Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, A.A. Adeleju, informed the court that the incident occurred on March 5 when the defendant gained access to the mosque under the guise of collecting Ramadan food.
According to the prosecutor, while others waited in line, Ibrahim sneaked through the back entrance and carted away electrical cable belonging to the mosque.
Adeleju further stated that the suspect later confessed during police interrogation, adding that the stolen cable, valued at N2 million, was recovered from him.
