Nigerian singer Burna Boy, who has won a Grammy, recently made fun of South Africans on social media. This came after a Nigerian-linked model, Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, was bullied out of the Miss South Africa contest.
Mia Le Roux, who is of Dutch descent and deaf, was crowned Miss South Africa 2024. She won the title over nine other models, most of whom were black.
Chidimma Adetshina, who has Nigerian and Mozambican roots, had to withdraw from the contest because she was bullied by mostly black South Africans.
They claimed she couldn’t represent them well because of her background. After this, many Nigerians and other Africans mocked black South Africans for not being able to produce a black winner, despite their criticism of Chidimma.
In response, Burna Boy posted a photo of the white winner on his X account with the caption, “So after all that… [laugh emoji],” referencing the attacks on Chidimma.
