Bundesliga game between Bayern Munich and Union Berlin postponed due to heavy snowfall

Bayern Munich and Union Berlin have sent out information on the cancellation of their tie which was originally scheduled to be held today at the Allianz Arena at 15:30 CET, Munich. The game was postponed due to heavy snow which struck the city of Munich.

Union Berlin on their website said:

“The Bundesliga match between 1. FC Union Berlin and FC Bayern München scheduled for today have been canceled due to the weather conditions in the Bavarian capital.

Due to safety risks for all involved, it was decided not to proceed with the match.”

Bayern stated that the match would have proceeded by getting the pitch in a condition that would have allowed play to go ahead by the afternoon, but other safety risks and the traffic situation made cancellation unavoidable.

The snow is also falling from the roof of the Stadium, which poses an unavoidable risk for match Spectators.

The club added that it is almost impossible to get to the stadium. Countless buses and trains are canceled, many roads and motorways are completely closed, and the underground line U6, which runs to Fröttmaning and the Allianz Arena, has been suspended. The Munich police recommend that people do not leave their homes. Under these conditions, it cannot be guaranteed that the necessary security personnel will be able to reach the Allianz Arena.

The club further revealed that an update will be provided when a rescheduling is made.

CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen: “We very much regret that we have to postpone the match, but the safety of our fans and the supporters of Union Berlin has absolute priority. In addition, access to the Allianz Arena is not guaranteed due to numerous road closures and various public transport cancellations. We will inform you about a possible new date as soon as possible.”
