British YouTuber Yung Filly Accused of Rape, Granted Bail in Australia

British YouTuber and rapper Andrés Felipe Valencia Barrientos, widely known as Yung Filly, was arrested on October 8 in Brisbane, Australia, on serious charges, including four counts of sexual penetration without consent.

Following his arrest, Barrientos, 29, was extradited over 4,000 km to Perth, where he appeared in court on Wednesday.

The charges come from an alleged incident on Saturday, September 28, when Barrientos is accused of assaulting a woman in her 20s in a Perth hotel room after performing at Bar1 in Hillarys, a northern suburb of the city. The accusations against him include three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of choking by impeding normal breathing or circulation.

During the court proceedings, WA police prosecutor Julius Depetro argued that the evidence supporting the case was “extremely strong,” with CCTV and photographic proof. Depetro noted, “No ordinary person can consent in those circumstances,” referring to the injuries shown in the evidence photos, which he described as indicating “a history of violent acts.”

Despite opposition from the prosecution, Perth Magistrate Tanya Watt granted Barrientos bail on strict conditions, including a daily reporting requirement to the police, a $100,000 cash surety, and a ban on social media discussions related to the case. Watt stated that she believed the risks could be managed with these safeguards.

Defense barrister Seamus Rafferty SC argued against the prosecution’s request for a social media ban, calling it “entirely unrealistic” given Barrientos’ reliance on social platforms for income. Rafferty mentioned that denying his client bail would lead to up to two years of detention at Hakea Prison, which he claimed would result in “social isolation” for Barrientos, adding that “all people are equal before the law.”

The YouTube star, known for his work with the Beta Squad and appearances on British television, rose to fame through his digital platforms, amassing millions of followers across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
