Report has it that bandits have killed a vice principal and two others in Iluke Bunu community, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, during a violent pre-dawn attack targeting students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The attackers reportedly stormed the community on Wednesday morning, June 10, 2026, and invaded UBE Iluke Bunu, where students were in the middle of their examinations, in what was believed to be a coordinated attempt at mass abduction.
During the assault, Mr. Gani Anifowose, vice principal of Government Secondary School, Aharha-Bunu, was killed alongside two other residents.
Troops of the Nigerian Army, stationed in nearby Suku-Kiri Bunu, responded swiftly to a distress call and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, foiling the abduction attempt.
The Kogi State Government confirmed the attack, commending the combined efforts of security forces, vigilantes, and local hunters, which led to the rescue of all examination candidates unhurt.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said the attackers stormed the community in military-style uniforms, disrupted the ongoing examination, and attempted to whisk away students into the bush before they were repelled.
Authorities say calm has since been restored to the area, while security operations have been intensified.
