BREAKING: Tension in Abuja as Obi, Atiku, Kwankwaso, Amaechi, Others Lead Mass Protest at INEC Headquarters

Prominent political figures including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Dino Melaye, and activist Aisha Yesufu on Wednesday led a mass protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, demanding urgent action to save Nigeria’s democracy.

Other notable figures sighted at the demonstration include Rabiu Kwankwaso and Rauf Aregbesola, as hundreds of supporters converged on the electoral body’s office in a show of defiance, The News Chronicle gathered.

Clad in branded “Operation Save Our Democracy” T-shirts, protesters waved red-and-white placards bearing inscriptions such as “INEC Chairman Must Go,” while chanting solidarity songs and calling for institutional accountability.

The protest follows mounting tensions after INEC withdrew recognition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership led by David Mark—an action that has sparked outrage among opposition figures and civil society groups.

The demonstrators insist the move threatens democratic stability and are demanding immediate reversal, warning of sustained civic action if their grievances are ignored.
